Quick Guide
  • Planet Zoo 2 is available on Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Frontier currently has no plans for Mac, Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 or previous-generation consoles.
  • Use the official minimum and recommended PC specifications below. Franchise requires an internet connection, even though the FAQ also describes offline play after downloading the game.
  • Game Pass/PS Plus have no announcement in the checked FAQ. A Steam Deck connection fix is documented, but it does not establish a performance rating or full device certification.

Check your platform first

Platform or serviceWhat the documentation establishes
Windows PCAvailable; compare your hardware with the table below.
PlayStation 5Available; console builds use a complexity meter.
Xbox Series X|SAvailable; console builds use a complexity meter.
Mac / macOSFrontier says there are no plans for a macOS release.
Nintendo Switch / Switch 2Frontier says there are no current plans for either system.
Previous-generation consolesFrontier says there are no plans for these consoles.
Game Pass / PS PlusThe FAQ has no news to share; future inclusion remains unannounced.

The FAQ also lists GeForce NOW as a cloud option for players without powerful local hardware. That is a separate service route: check its current access terms and availability before treating it as a substitute for a local PC or console purchase.

Treat each graphics entry as an alternative listed by the publisher. Meeting a table entry is not a guarantee for every zoo size. The official help page warns that growing animal and guest populations increase the simulation workload, so reducing graphics settings may not address a processor limit.

Windows 10 caveat

The minimum listing includes Windows 10, but it also warns that ongoing compatibility is not guaranteed after Microsoft ended support. Use the current store listing when planning a purchase; the recommended listing specifies Windows 11.

Offline play, controls and console limits

Separate three questions: whether the downloaded game has offline play, whether your chosen mode is online, and whether you are downloading shared content. The FAQ supports offline play after downloading, but The Basics explicitly requires you to be online for Franchise. Workshop downloading and sharing also require internet access.

Choose a control method and account for platform limits
QuestionDocumented answer
Can I use a controller on PC?Yes; the FAQ supports gamepad or mouse and keyboard.
Can I use a mouse and keyboard on console?Yes; the FAQ supports either that combination or a gamepad.
Do console zoos have a build limit?Console builds include a complexity meter; check it as your zoo grows.
Does sharing mean multiplayer? No. The FAQ says there is no multiplayer, while allowing cross-platform sharing of parks and blueprints.

Keep unconfirmed support separate

Update 1.0.5, dated 16 October 2026, reports a server-connection fix for Steam Deck running Proton 11 or newer. That is useful evidence about a specific connection problem. It does not establish a Steam Deck verification badge, frame rate, battery life or a promise that every feature works.

The checked sources do not establish VR support or Xbox Play Anywhere entitlement. Leave those questions open until a current official listing explicitly answers them. Likewise, a lack of Game Pass or PS Plus news is not a permanent statement that the game can never join either service.
